Vitamin E Overdose

Side Effects of Too Much Vitamin E

Vitamin E Overdose...

Recent so-called Meta-Analysis studies, in particular one carried out by researchers of John Hopkins University, have drawn attention to vitamin E side effects.

It is true that you can experience side effects of too much Vitamin E. This is because Vitamin E is one of the fat soluble vitamins, which can accumulate in the liver and adipose tissues.

On the other hand, water soluble vitamins are generally regarded to be safer in higher doses because the body can more readily excrete excesses. An example of a water soluble vitamin is Vitamin C.

A Vitamin E Overdose could be caused by taking too much of this nutrient. Certain Vitamin E side effects from taking too much can range from: nausea, lethargy, feeling weak, and diarrhea.

Other side effects of too much vitamin E can exist, but the above are the most common.

So how much Vitamin E is too much?

Well, the answers vary. Some people believe that anything more than 400 IU's a day is excessive, whereas others claim that you don't need to worry till you reach a level of 1,000 IU's a day.

We here at Nutritional Supplement Info personally avoid high doses of vitamins. We take 100 IU's a day, in addition to what we get from the foods that we eat.

It's also important, in our opinion, that you don't take just one form of Vitamin E. Here is a little excerpt from an insightful article on Vitamin E:

"The common Vitamin E used by most people is only one fraction of Vitamin E. High does of Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) alone has been shown to deplete the body's gamma-tocopherol. Despite alpha tocopherol's action as an antioxidant, gamma tocopherol is required to effectively remove the harmful peroxynitrite-derived nitrating species."
