Policosanol Research
There is a great deal of policosanol research for those who are interested in trying this supplement for lowering their cholesterol.
We will discuss what much of the policosanol research has shown in brief summary form, then provide some links to credible online medical sources which document the results of policosanol.
Policosanol is a natural waxy substance derived from sugar cane primarily and rice bran as well. There are also other sources of it, but most of the clinical studies have only validated the sugar cane version...in fact, other forms of it seem to be less effective, or not effective at all.
It should be noted that even though it is derived from sugar cane, it will not raise your blood sugar.
Some studies have shown that policosanol can lower one’s bad Cholesterol (LDL) by up to 20% and raise beneficial cholesterol (HDL) by 10%
It works by obstructing the synthesis of cholesterol from the liver.
In addition, policosanol helps protect against the formation of lesions in arterial walls, and also acts as an anti-coagulant, similar to aspirin. (If you are currently already on blood thinners, talk to your doctor before using policosanol).
