Garcinia Cambogia Extract

Garcinia Cambogia Extract is sourced from the garcinia cambogia, which is a fruit that is indigenous to Southeast Asia.

The fruit is used as a flavouring in ethnic Indian dishes. However, garcinia extract has become widely popular in Europe and North America because of its use in many different weight loss supplements.

Metabolife Ultra is just one example of a product that contains Garcinia Cambogia.

Since its use is now so prevalent, let's investigate a bit deeper into how garcinia extract supposedly works.

Garcinia Cambogia Extract harbors a compound called HCA (hydroxycitric acid).

Various studies suggest that HCA may:

- promote weightloss
- suppress the appetite
- prevent the synthesis and accumulation of lipids (lipids are fats)
- have thermogenic properties (that is, boost the metabolism by increasing body temperature).

So does garcinia really work?

Well it's probably too early to say for sure.

But some studies show it to be interesting and promising.

For example, here's an abstract of research that shows it has promise as an anti-obesity agent.

Here's another abstract that shows research performed on rats using garcinia extract helped keep lipid levels in check when co-administered with an agent (dexamethasone) that normally leads to "undesirable changes in lipid profile."

Please remember that garcinia is often used in conjunction with many other powerful stimulants in weight loss formulas, and these stimulants can produce undesirable side effects, particuarly when the product is abused.
