In this day and age of low carb diets, and an increased interest in living a healthy lifestyle, the egg has taken center stage again.

Let's first talk about the protein in an egg.
First, eggs contain the essential amino acids our bodies need. Essential amino acids are the ones that our bodies cannot manufacture on their own, and, therefore, must be consumed from dietary sources.
Second, eggs are a complete protein...this means that the protein in an egg is easily digested and utilized by the body.
Some of you may be wondering how much protein in an egg?
Well, one average sized egg usually contains anywhere from 6 to 7 grams of protein, and contains only about a 1/2 a gram of carbs.

Now, some of you may be wondering why you'd want to get the protein in an egg from egg protein powder or an egg protein supplement rather than just eating eggs?
For the simple reason that it's more convenient. If you live a busy lifestyle (and who doesn't these days), it's very quick and easy to mix up a shake out of egg protein powder rather than having to scramble or boil eggs, or make an omelette, etc.
However, the least healthy part of eggs is the saturated fats. Now, I should say that I don't think there is a problem eating some saturated fats. Indeed, our bodies NEED some to maintain health. However, athletes and bodybuilders in particular need a lot of protein -- and the benefits of eating some saturated fats would quickly become unhealthy if you're eating 6 eggs at a time.
Egg protein powder would help such people get the protein in an egg without the majority of what would make it unhealthy.

So what's the bottomline?
Well, we think if you're only going to eat 2-3 eggs a day, you probably should just get the protein in an egg directly by eating eggs.
However, if you life a very busy lifestyle and don't always have time to make breakfast, or you're a bodybuilder and/or athlete who needs more protein, then egg egg protein powder should definitely be a strong consideration for you.
We would be remiss if we didn't tell you that we believe a superior source of protein than egg protein powder or an egg protein supplement is
whey protein concentrate.
